State Lawmakers Consider Election Changes, Bay County Commission Opposes Change
Bay County’s six Democrats on the county commission are against a proposed change in how future elections would be held.
Essexville area commissioner Michael Lutz does not like a change to running for the commissioner’s seat as a nonpartisan issue. He said without a party label next to a candidate’s name, the voters would not know how a candidate feels about a given issue.
The Bay County Commission’s lone Republican, Vaughn Begick, did not attend Tuesday’s ways and means committee meeting.
If the resolution is passed at the Bay County Commission’s regular meeting, October 8th, it would be forwarded to other counties seeking support against the proposed change. A copy would also be sent to the Michigan Association of Counties that hasn’t taken a position on the pending legislation.
