A suspect shot and killed by a a Shiawassee County sheriff’s deputy has been identified.

Police say a Durand police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Oak Street in Durand around 1:30 P.M. on Saturday. The suspect, 43-year-old Daniel Silver, was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, according to police. The deputy arrived on the scene to assist the officer, and at some point during the stop, fired shots at Silver. Silver died as a result. Details as to why the deputy shot the suspect have not been made available.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the state police investigate the incident.
