The Saginaw Intermediate School District celebrated the groundbreaking of a new preschool Wednesday.

The ISD purchased the former Jerome Elmentary School at 1515 Sweet Street from the Saginaw Public Schools District in 2021, which closed its doors for good in 2013 due to declining enrollment. The ISD had leased the building for several years to use for its Head Start and Early Head Start programs, eventually buying the building for $35,000.

Now, the ISD has plans to transform the site into a preschool with a focus on green STEM learning. Preschool students were at the ceremony, even participating in the ceremonial digging of new ground.

Accordng to the ISD, the new preschool will provide families with health, dental and employment resources and will even feature a greenhouse on the campus.
