Eric HaKeem Deontaye Mays will not get his day in court after his lawsuit against the city of Flint was dismissed.

Mays filed the suit against Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley, Flint City Attorney William Kim, and Flint Human Resources Director Ed Smith in March, claiming the city was witholding a life insurance policy covering his late father and Flint City Councilman Eric Mays. The suit claimed the younger Mays was the named beneficiary on the policy, though a statement from Smith says the city did not have documentation from probate court showing a representative from Mays’ estate was ever designated, meaning Deontaye Mays was not a named beneficiary.

The city is also looking to sanction Lento Law Group, the legal council representing Deontaye Mays, for filing baseless lawsuits against the city. According to Mlive, Lento Law Group has sued Flint eight times since June of last year, which the city claims are devoid of merit and interfere with the governance of the city. The law firm filed a number of those suits on behalf of the late Eric Mays. Three of the eights suits have now been dismissed.
