Comedian Monique and her husband Sidney Hicks shocked the entertainment industry when they shared that they gave one another permission to have intimate relationships outside of their marriage. When that news hit the street, people instantly jumped to the conclusion that it was her husband who wanted their arrangement. Monique came out publicly and said that it was her idea to have an open relationship, not her husbands. We also remember the fallout over a very married Jada Pinkett Smith’s “entaglement” with her children’s friend, singer August Alsina.

It’s 2023, and more than ever, women are taking control of the narrative regarding their bodies, including who they share it with.  They are erasing the shame that is normally associated with certain activities and replacing it with support, education, and understanding.  According to newsweek.com, 1 out of 9 people have tried polyamory before and 1 out of 6 admitted they wanted to try it.  Women usually aski their mate to be honest and transparent within the relationship, but unfortunately many men believe that their women cannot handle the truth. That truth is usually that they aren’t being monogamous. Let’s be honest, many women stay in the relationship after finding out that he has cheated, so why not be honest and upfront with your mate prior to “cheating”?  Many say it’s the deceit versus the act of cheating.  Could it also be rooted in insecurity that she might seek other relationships too?
On social media in particular, you’re seeing more and more couples who are into alternative lifestyles, such as polyamory. The more you see it, the more you see women with two or more men in relationships that they claim are happy and healthy. Many people in polyamorous relationships claim that the relationships are actually safer because everything is being done in the open and without secrets.
The assumption has always been that women are supposed to stay a virgin until married and only have one partner until death do them part. More women are seeing the personal advantages of having more than one romantic partner at a time and are even the ones suggesting it to their partners and lovers. As women are becoming more successful, they’re finding a new independence with options that weren’t once accepted and once deemed taboo.  Would a polyamorous relationship be right for you?
