WATCH NOW: Gladys Knight & Patti LaBelle on VERZUZ

Last night, soul music fans (both young and “young at heart”) were treated to the ultimate night of sisterhood with the “Godmother of Soul” Patti LaBelle and the “Empress of Soul” Gladys Knight! Broadcasting live from The Fillmore in Philadelphia, these musical heavyweights went round for round, displaying just a fraction of their monster catalogues. Despite a few technical difficulties (including Instagram cutting off their live halfway through “Midnight Train to Georgia,”  due to copyright issues….really, Zuckerberg?), the night was full of love, life lessons, and some great music. There was even a surprise towards the end of the “battle.”

(We put “battle” in quotes because, honestly, it wasn’t really a battle. They’re both icons, and the real winner is US!)
