TV NEWS: “Red Table Talk” Renewed Through 2022; Spinoff Series In The Works
Great news, Red Table Talk fans!
Deadline has confirmed that Facebook signed a three year deal with Jada Pinkett Smith and her Westbrook Studios this week. That means that the flagship Facebook Watch series, featuring Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, will have new episodes all through 2022. This comes as Facebook Watch is starting to shift its focus onto their slate of unscripted shows, which also includes Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe and a revival of Steve Harvey’s talk show, Steve on Watch.
In addition to the renewal, the Red Table Talk franchise is expanding with the order of a spinoff series, Red Table Talk: The Estefans. The new show will be headed by Latin music icon Gloria Estefan (who will serve as executive producer, along with Pinkett Smith). The show will also feature Gloria’s daughter, musician Emily Estefan, and her niece, award-winning TV host Lili Estefan.
In a statement, Pinkett Smith expressed her excitement for the new show. “I’m incredibly proud of Red Table Talk, and thrilled to build upon this franchise with my family and with Gloria, Emily and Lili. Red Table Talk has created a space to have open, honest and healing conversations around social and topical issues, and what’s most powerful for me is hearing people’s stories and engaging with our fans in such a tangible way on the Facebook Watch platform. I’m excited to see the Estefans put their spin on the franchise and take it to new places.”
In a separate statement, Facebook Watch’s head of development & programming, Mina Lefevre, said the following: “We’ve been fortunate enough to be in business with such wonderful partners and are thrilled to expand the Red Table Talk franchise with Jada Pinkett Smith, the Estefans and Westbrook Studios. Red Table Talk is a shining example of how content, community and conversation come together on Facebook Watch. We’re proud to keep this conversation going around topics our fans care about.”
