Summer is right around the corner, and even if you didn’t get your
“summer body” in the shape you wanted, that body still wants to get
out and have fun! This year, especially this summer, I want you to
make a vow to yourself to take care of yourself on purpose! I want you
to intentionally make uninterrupted time for yourself, regardless of
your responsibilities.

I know what you’re thinking… your job needs you… the kids need
you. Listen, everyone and everything will be OK for a few moments
while you regroup. If you’ve ever flown on an airplane, you’re
familiar with the flight attendant instructing you what to do in case
of an emergency. When the mask drops down, take it and put it on
yourself. Leave it on you until you’re at 100%. Don’t take the mask of
yourself and put it on someone else either, take care of yourself
first. Then help others. Consider this an emergency!

When you are at your best, then and only then can you truly help or
assist someone in need to be the best of your abilities. If you short
change yourself, then you’re actually short changing those who you
really want to help. We’ve been programmed to think we’re selfish for
not wanting to go somewhere , or even not answering your phone when
someone calls. The only person that you owe, is yourself. You owe it
to yourself to prioritize yourself and your mental health. You owe it
to yourself and others to be the best version of yourself that you can
possibly be. You can’t do that successfully, burning the candle at
both ends.

Take a moment, or several moments for your self.  Whether you take a vacation by yourself for the weekend, or a few moments alone in the bathtub to meditate. Do it intentionally. On purpose.  Commit to yourself. You’ll thank yourself later!
