Saginaw Water Rates to Increase Due to Lead Pipe Replacement Program

The plan to clear lead out of affected pipes and homes in Saginaw could take up to two decades, if not longer.
Jennifer Drinan, the senior project manager of OHM Advisers, spoke about Saginaw’s problem with lead in the water at the Monday, August 5 City Council meeting. The city’s water rates are set to go up by 2% each year, and the long-term project could extend until 2040. Drinan predicted by 2025, the lead action level will go from 15 parts per billion to 12 parts per billion.
With there still being no state funded money to go to fixing this problem, employers will see an increase in the cost of service to clean the water.
