Saginaw County is moving closer to finding a site for its new Animal Care and Control Center. County commissioners met behind closed doors for just over an hour Tuesday afternoon, October 29th, reviewing several potential sites. County Controller Robert Belleman said the commission had not made a decision yet.

He will do what he called ‘due diligence’, getting additional information on some sites. The county has been looking for a five acre site, with utilities, for the new center. The commission had previously indicated the search was concentrated on the Bay and Tittabawassee Roads corridor area. But a site within the city of Saginaw is still possible.

Some ideas for the new center is an area to exercise the dogs, currently not available at the center in the city at 1312 Gratiot. Other criteria is a separate area for dogs and cats that can be adopted and improved ventilation. The new center would also offer room for veterinarians to treat animals at the center.

The Saginaw County board will likely revisit the subject in November.
