R.I.P. Lashawn Daniels – Grammy-Winning Songwriter Dead at 41

Grammy winning songwriter Lashawn Daniels passed away earlier this week following a fatal car crash in South Carolina.

Daniels was known as the writer behind major hits like Destiny’s Child “Say My Name” and Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine.”

His wife, April Daniels, shared the news of his passing via a statement on Instagram which read, “It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce our beloved husband, father, family member, and friend Lashawn Daniels, who was the victim of a fatal car accident in South Carolina.”

“A Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter, Daniels was a man of extraordinary faith and a pillar in our family. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the continuous outpouring of love and sympathy. We ask that you respect the privacy of our entire family during this difficult time.”

Daniels won a Grammy in 2001 for his songwriting work on “Say My Name” and was nominated again in 2014 for Tamar Braxton‘s “Love and War.”

His other songwriting credits include Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” featuring Beyoncé, Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” and Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right but It’s Okay.”

Following news of his passing, celebrities like Kirk Franklin, Kehlani, Ari Lennox and Dawn Richard shared their condolences.
