A ribbon cutting ceremony opened a new eight court tennis complex on Park Street in Bay City Thursday where the former Jefferson Elementary School once stood.

Bay Community Tennis Association President Joe Ricard says the project was roughly a decade in the making after the school closed. Ricard noted neighbors were concerned about what would replace
the school while tennis enthusiasts wanted a new facility as other sites around the city were deteriorating.

He added approximately 200 donors contributed money or services to make the facility a reality. Bay City Central High School’s tennis team will practice and play its home matches there with the site opened to the public otherwise.
