Saginaw township police met up at the Kroger at 4672 State st. this morning to observe and share this year’s National Coffee with a Cop Day.

Celebrated on the first Wednesday of every October, Saginaw Township has taken part in the community event annually  since its inception by a department in Hawthorne, California in 2011.

Saginaw Township Police Chief Don Pussehl says the event helps officers and residents get to know each other a bit better and and talk about community matters over some coffee and doughnuts in a non-emergency setting.

The event went on from 10 to 11:30am, but the department tries to put on similar events year round.

Crime Prevention Specialist Chris Fredenburg, who was also at the event, says the department is already working on setting up another local Coffee with a Cop day in january.
