The Huron County Sheriff’s office says two men from the Flint-area had to be rescued Thursday morning after their boat capsized. Huron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the canal between Beadle Bay Marina and Wild Fowl Bay in Caseville Township about 10:20 a.m., after reports of a capsized boat with people holding on to the side.

The two men,  78-year-old Mark Lackney and 65-year-old Danny Middleton, were in the water for about 15 minutes before they were brought to shore. They declined medical treatment. The boat was righted and recovered by Bay Marine Salvage.

Sheriff Kelly Hanson said it’s believed that a missing stern drain plug caused the boat to overturn. He urges boaters to double check drain plugs before heading out on the water.
