Michigan State and Los Angeles Lakers superstar Earvin “Magic” Johnson says basketball may have helped him escape poverty, but that dreaming bigger also enabled him to succeed in business too.  Johnson thanked MSU trustees and businessmen like Joel Ferguson for allowing him to see the larger picture while he was still in college.

Johnson spoke Wednesday at Saginaw Township’s Horizons Conference Center as part of a fundraiser for the Saginaw Promise college scholarship program.

492 students have received $830,000 to fulfill higher education and career goals since disbursement of scholarship money began in 2012.
