International Pop Star Lizzo has often come under scrutiny by critics, often overlooking her undeniable talent to focus on her plus sized body and usually criticize it. Well the people who really matter to her, YOU…her fans, awarded her with the People’s Champion Award at the People’s Choice Awards. This awards show is still wildly popular with fans because they actually select with the winners, not some random committee.

Originally, Lizzo was undecided about accepting the award because she feels as though she doesn’t have to rewarded for championing people. “To be an icon is not about how long you’ve had your platform,” the artist, who also won Song of the Year for “About Damn Time,” said. “Being an icon is what you do with that platform. And ever since the beginning of my career, I’ve used my platform to amplify marginalized voices.”

She shared the award, by bringing up 17 activists on stage so that the audience can also “give them their flowers” while spotlighting their amazing contributions and their organizations. To make it an even more incredible moment, Lizzo was presented the award by her mother Shari Johnson-Jefferson. How do you feel about Lizzo winning this award?
