Cloudy skies and a threat of rain failed to deter people from gathering Wednesday on Saginaw’s Ojibway Island for the annual Light Up The City kick off.  Area law enforcement and public safety agencies displayed equipment and met with families while visitors enjoyed games and refreshments.

Consumers Energy has supported this initiative for eight years by coordinating volunteers who walk through city neighborhoods handing out free energy efficient light bulbs. Residents are encouraged to keep their porch lights on to help thwart criminal activity.

The walks will start next Wednesday and continue on Wednesday’s in different parts of Saginaw through mid-August except for the week of July 4th.
