Governor And Republican Lawmakers Remain At Odds Over Roads

Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer and G-O-P lawmakers remain at odds over how to provide the estimated $2,500,000,000 needed to fix Michigan’s roads.
State Representative Rodney Wakeman says he remains dead set against the Governor’s proposed 45 cents a gallon fuel tax increase. The Saginaw Township Republican believes the overwhelming majority of residents want nothing to do with hiking fuel taxes by such a large amount.
Meanwhile House Minority Leader Democrat Christine Greig believes the Governor’s plan is dead and that ideas like raising corporate income taxes or taxing heavy trucks should now be considered.
