The Ginuwine/Dru Hill Tour took over Soaring Eagle Casino this past weekend, and it was an event the Bay Area needed. Unfortunately, I missed the opening act, Beth, an incredibly talented young lady from Detroit, who was also a contestant on NBC’s , “The Voice”. Though she didn’t win the grand prize, she definitely won America over with her amazing voice and stage presence.
The show began with a short video starring Ginuwine, and the females in the audience lost their mind seeing “The Same Ole G” singer zipping around on the screen in his pristine Rolls Royce. Ginuwine then took the stage with his rendition of Detroit’s own baby-girl Aaliyah’s hit, “Are you that somebody”, one of his two tributes to the late singer/actress. He performed hit after hit from his 27 year career in the industry. Jams like “Ain’t none of your friends business” and “Hell yeah!” The crowd came alive when he performed “I need a girl” and when he covered Jodeci’s “Freakin you”. His fans rushed to the stage as he began serenading the crowd and passing out roses. He closed out the show with one of his biggest hits, “Pony” before heading off the stage to pose for pictures with his adoring fans.
Dru Hill took the stage around 9:30 and the crowd went wild. The remix to “Sleeping in my bed” had the crowd singing along and the entire audience did Dru Hill’s famous two step from the video,”Tell me what you want”. Multiple members of the group took turns singing lead reminding their fans that each member can truly sing… and their microphones were definitely on. Jazz almost stole the show when he began singing “Promises you can’t keep”. Dru Hill is the one group who can give New Edition a run for their money in the choreography department and Jodeci with their vocals. Classic after classic, like “Beauty was her name” and “These are the times we wished for”. And of course, Sisqo did a few of his solo hits like “What they really want” featuring DMX. The night concluded with more hits as well as covers of songs from your favorite artists like D’Angelo and Mint Condition.
Ginuwine and Dru Hill is the concert that you didn’t know you needed, until you experienced it for yourself. If they come come to your town, make sure you check them out!
