U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee is in Saginaw Saturday, August 17 attending a free day of outdoor activities for veterans, first responders and their families.

Kildee, the Democratic representative of Michigan’s Fifth District and the Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, is hosting the event, along State Senator Ken Horn and State Representative Vanessa Guerra. The event is a chance for veterans and first responders to enjoy guided outdoor activities like biking, kayaking, fly fishing and spin casting. Studies have shown recreational therapies can help alleviate symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, which many veterans and first responders deal with. The activities increase function and independence, promote wellness and increase quality of life.

The event will be held on Saginaw’s Ojibway Island starting at 9:00 a.m. Lunch and coffee will also be provided.
