If you’re like me, celebrating your birthday can be a big deal. To some, it’s a month long celebration of life. Growing up, I remember the parties my parents through for me and those memories will last my lifetime, but why not make new adult memories around my birthday. I didn’t want an annual party, or even a yearly trip, I wanted something different and unique and then it hit me; give myself a different challenge or goal for every year of life I’ll be celebrating. Simply put, I’m turning 52 in April, so I’ve come up with a list of 52 goals that I plan on accomplishing before I turn 53 next year.

When most people hear the phrase setting goals, they usually imagine some huge accomplishment that they’ve been putting off for years. That’s part of it, but it should also include smaller goals that are easily achievable and realistic. For example, have you driven by a place to eat and always promised yourself you’d stop and try them out… do it! Have you been putting off looking for a long lost friend on social media? Start today! There’s no better time than the present.
You should also include at least 1 or two goals that push you out of  your comfort zone. Trying something new might open multiple opportunities for you or discover something about yourself. If you’re fearful of something, why not put it on your list and work on overcoming it. Once you try it, you might find that there was nothing to fear, but fear itself. I’m terrified of heights, so one of my goals is to zip line across Las Vegas. I’ve found that once you begin knocking out the easier goals you’ve set, you have more confidence to try something you’ve been avoiding.
If you’re afraid of someone you know seeing you while you’re reluctantly trying something new, I’ve got a solution. Try reaching your goal in a city or state other than the one you live in. Nobody knows you, so what do you really have to lose by trying? People will travel out of town and live a double life by cheating on their mate while they’re there; why not travel out of town so that you can grow by trying something new or accomplishing a goal that you’ve set.
Commit to living your best life, by setting goals for yourself each year on your birthday! Trust me, you won’t regret living your life to the fullest!
