‘Facts of Life’ star Charlotte Rae dead at 92

Charlotte Rae, the actress best known as the headmistress of the NBC sitcom The Facts of Life, has died. She was 92. She passed away Sunday in her Los Angeles home after her battle with bone cancer.

Rae was known for her signature TV role as headmistress Edna Garrett on ’80s comedy, The Facts of Life. She originated the character of Garrett in 1978 for NBC’s Diff’rent Strokes and then went on to play her for seven seasons on the spinoff. She was a two-time nominee for both the Tony and Emmy Awards.

Former The Facts of Life co-star Kim Fields took to her Twitter to express her sadness:

“You all already know my heart is heavy yet…. sorry, no words at the moment just love and tears… and yeah, smiles…” she tweeted.

Rae’s”Diff’rent Strokes” co-star Todd Bridges also shared his sadness, adding that Rae was “loved by everyone.
