On Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 10:00am-6:00pm, at Arthur Hill High School (3115 Mackinaw St. Saginaw, MI 48602), Great Lakes Bay Health Centers along with Saginaw Public Schools, will be presenting the 9th Annual REALTALK 2019 youth event. In conjunction with the youth event, they will also be hosting the “Real Families of Saginaw” Parent Empowerment Day.
During REAL TALK, there will be workshops designed to teach young people how to prevent HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unplanned pregnancies. There will also be workshops focused on bullying prevention, how to respectfully interact with law enforcement, sexting and the law, self-esteem, human trafficking prevention, and much more. The information will be presented by several community leaders, and some youth leaders. Abstinence – choosing not to have sex—will be emphasized as the SAFEST choice. In addition, accurate information about other protection methods will also be provided. Students will learn and practice ways to resist pressure to have sex, and will also learn some decision-making and communication skills.
Parents are also asked to be part of prevention. The “Real Families of Saginaw” event will empower parents with information and skills to help their students make healthy life choices. Featured in the workshop will be the “Talk Early, Talk Often” parent training. This will equip parents with tools and resources needed to talk to their kids about sex.
In addition to the workshops, there will be several activities for the youth to participate in, including open gym activities and a talent show featuring some of Saginaw’s best youth talent.
Youth MUST have parental consent to attend this youth event!
Space is LIMITED! Registration is limited to the first 200 youth!
