Disney’s “Aladdin” Soars to a Massive Memorial Day Weekend

After much debate and fanfare, Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake made a killing at this weekend’s box office. The film (starring Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith) made a massive $112.7 million at the theaters this Memorial Day weekend, easily flying to the #1 spot.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film earned more than the opening for 2016’s Jungle Book remake ($103.2 million), but it wasn’t enough to beat the first week gross for last year’s Beauty & The Beast, which opened with $174.7 million.

Here’s the rest of the top 10 box office numbers, according to Variety:

  1. Aladdin – $112.7 million
  2. John Wick: Chapter 3 – $31 million
  3. Avengers: Endgame  – $22.3 million
  4. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu  – $17 million
