After much debate and fanfare, Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake made a killing at this weekend’s box office. The film (starring Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith) made a massive $112.7 million at the theaters this Memorial Day weekend, easily flying to the #1 spot.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film earned more than the opening for 2016’s Jungle Book remake ($103.2 million), but it wasn’t enough to beat the first week gross for last year’s Beauty & The Beast, which opened with $174.7 million.
Here’s the rest of the top 10 box office numbers, according to Variety:
- Aladdin – $112.7 million
- John Wick: Chapter 3 – $31 million
- Avengers: Endgame – $22.3 million
- Pokémon: Detective Pikachu – $17 million
- Brightburn – $9.5 million
- Booksmart – $8.7 million
- A Dog’s Journey – $5.5 million
- The Hustle – $4.8 million
- The Intruder – $2.9 million
- Long Shot – $2.1 million
