Declining State Support For K-12 Education Discussed In Saginaw
June 19, 2019 12:26AM EDT
Organizers of a Town Hall at Saginaw’s Bradley House focusing on declining state support for K-12 education say action is needed to address inequities in financing between school districts.
Michigan is now last in the country in growth when it comes to proficiency in math and reading.
Participants called on area residents to contact their state lawmakers. They add solving the problem would require an infusion of up to $4,000,000,000 over several years from a number of sources. Suggestions included revising the sales tax, changing business tax breaks and switching from a flat to a graduated income tax structure as is now the practice in over 30 states and at the federal level.
Over 40 people attended the Tuesday evening event.
