The firing of the Chesaning police chief has led some residents to want the village president out as well.

However, the Saginaw County Election Commission recently denied petition language to recall village president Joseph Sedlar, saying the wording was complex and unclear. The petition began after Chief Stacy Wilburn was let go from her position of 12 years in the community. Village officials cite numerous instances of absenteeism, missed scheduled meetings, complaints from subordinates, misuse of police vehicles, among several other reasons. According to officials, Wilburn agreed to a Performance Improvement Plan in February to attempt to help her become successful but she failed to follow through with the plan. The village Council voted 5-2 in early July to remove Wilburn from the position.

Residents have filed a new recall petition against Sedlar, which has yet to be reviewed by the commission
