Black Entertainment Television (BET) had some serious explaining to do after one of their employees decided to use their official social media pages to shade rapper Nicki Minaj over the Grammy weekend.

On Sunday, an article was posted in celebration of Nicki’s rap rival, Cardi B., as she became the first female solo artist to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. However, what really got folks up in arms was the now-deleted caption on the article that boldly stated, “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lace front.”

Unfortunately, the person responsible for the caption (who is most likely getting fired after this) forgot the fact that Nicki was scheduled to co-headline the BET Experience Concert Weekend in June, along with her Young Money boss, Lil Wayne.

You can pretty much guess what happened next.

BET has since apologized for the disrespectful comment, in an official statement.

“BET loves Nicki Minaj. We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward. Nicki has paved the way for so many performers and has solidified her place as one of the most powerful figures in the music industry. Unfortunately, the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written. The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values. We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused. We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation. We are also conducting an internal audit to assure these types of posts are not published again. We have apologized to Nicki and her team. The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her. Finally, we apologize to all of her fans. This should have never happened.”

Oh well. No word yet on who will headline the first night of the BET Experience as of yet. However, Cardi B. is set to headline the second night. So, maybe Nicki dropping out could be a good thing for now. Better safe than sorry.

The BET Experience will be held June 20-22 in Los Angeles. The BET Awards will follow on June 23.
