Bay County Water Resource Projects Awarded Grants
Three Bay County projects have been awarded grants from the Bay Area Community Foundation. The foundation’s Community Impact Initiative and Healthy Living funds will award $300000 to the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy, Fraser Township and Monitor Township.
The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy will use the money for its Riverbend West restoration project that will open up visual access to the only undeveloped, natural piece of riverfront in Bay City. The project will remove invasive plants, reintroduce native species and construct a new universally-accessible trail.
The Fraser Township project will transform an area at the end of Linwood Road which provides the only free access to Saginaw Bay. It will include green spaces, and areas to picnic, fish and launch kayaks and canoes.
In Monitor Township, plans call for improvements to the Herbert Steih Memorial Park, stabilizing the riverbank and preserving natural resources.
