After more than a month, Veterans Memorial Bridge has reopened.

The bridge was closed down by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) in both directions Monday, May 6 for a $2.7 million dollar reconstruction project. The work was expected to be completed June 19, but MDOT officials announced the bridge back open to traffic on Friday, June 14. Westbound traffic was reinstated on June 7.

The bridge is part of the M-25 state trunkline, connecting Thomas and Jenny streets to 7th and McKinley, crossing the Saginaw River. The work preceded plans to close down the city’s Lafayette Bridge near the South End, set to begin in 2020. MDOT officials say work on that bridge will take about two years to complete.
